What is Plus-Size Modeling

So, what is Plus Size Modeling? The Fashion industry considers women size 8 and above plus size, but let's be real here, most plus size clothing brands typically don't start their sizing before 10, this is the case for top plus size retailers Torrid and Lane Bryant. Now let's get really real; the average size of the American woman is currently a size 16-18, and clothing brands are taking notice. If you are a curvy girl who has been considering modeling, there has never been a better time to start.

The fashion industry is recognizing the need for plus size clothing, new brands are popping up all the time, and the number of established clothing brands becoming more inclusive with their sizing is on the rise. It's flowing over to stores you wouldn't expect, like Forever 21 which launched their first line of plus sizes in 2009. Other surprising stores that carry plus are Jcrew, The New York Company, Loft and the Banana Republic. I'm not telling you this, so you go out and shop! So put that fanny pack away and keep reading! What does this mean for you? More size inclusive brands means more opportunity for plus size modeling jobs.

Being a plus size model doesn't just mean clothing and catalog modeling anymore. Plus size models are walking in fashion shows, gracing the covers of magazines and being the focus of entire ad campaigns — something unheard of until recent years.
